About the Artists

Saeeda Sadat

In 2015, I started painting professionally with a teacher. For two years, I worked under this teacher and then I started to paint myself. Most of the time, I paint faces and nature; both of which interest me a great deal. In Afghanistan, art is not valued, but I have proved to most people how valuable art is.

Through my painting, I could help and make my Mom happy and my people proud. I create a variety of different paintings. I like to paint nature scenes with oil color, and draw human faces in black and white and colored pencils. I also enjoy working with charcoal. Creating art helps me deal with stress and brings me joy.

My therapist, along with my older sister Mariam, encouraged me to start drawing classes as an outlet for my stress. I started drawing and painting in 2019 and it continues.

I started painting in 2019, first through a two month course with a famous Afghan art teacher called Ustad Salim, and since then I have been using my artwork to help mitigate my stress levels.

For me, my artwork is an expression of my soul, allowing me to express my fears, my struggles, and most importantly, my dreams and goals.

Painting for me means bringing to life my mental fantasies on a white canvas. It brings me joy to be creative and put my dreams and frustrations on canvas.
