About the Artist: Sakina Hassani

Sakina Hassani

I am Sakina Hassani; born in 1995, in Kabul Afghanistan. For me, art has been a major influence on my life. I studied eight semesters of Arts at Kabul University, and worked as an art teacher at numerous organizations and schools in Kabul. I displayed my work in numerous galleries and exhibitions around Kabul, including at Afghanistan's National Gallery, and at the Silk Road Festival in Bamiyan.

After the Taliban came to power, I became a refugee in Chile. My husband and I and our beloved son live in Santiago, Chile. My husband works in a pizzeria, I am painting in my house. But unfortunately, artistic work is not profitable here, and I struggle to make art my profession as a refugee. For me, my artwork is an expression of my soul, allowing me to express my fears, my struggles, and most importantly, my dreams and goals.
