About the Artist: Shogufa Bayat

Shogufa Bayat

 

Shogufa Bayat is 21 year old and is studying Economics at Khatm-el-Nabeyan University In Kabul Afghanistan.

She is an avid mountain climber, and has been on climbing and backpacking trips in Panjshir, Bamiyan and Badakhshan provinces. She currently works as a program assistant for Ascend, a US based non-profit that teaches leadership skills through athletic activities. She is the lead instructor for the teams fitness program and for weekly activities. She has also traveled to Nepal, France, Norway and Germany to train and speak about Afghanistan and help others learn about Afghan women. 

Shogufa says “ When I am painting, I’m just playing with colors.  I have a lot of stress and I want to make it less.  I love to paint nature scenes.” She started painting in 2019, first through a two month course with a famous Afghan art teacher called Ustad Salim, and since then she has been using her artwork to help mitigate her stress levels.
